eRegulations updated with Regulations X, C, and more

We recently updated our eRegulations platform, which now includes Regulations C, X, and DD. We have also updated Regulation Z on the eRegulations platform so that it includes all the amendments made to the regulation through March 2016.

eRegulations is a tool we created in 2013 that lets you search through our regulations, read the official interpretation alongside the rule text, and see a timeline of the rule and any amendments.

As we noted during our inaugural release, navigating federal regulations is not always easy. Frequently, it means connecting information from different places, spread throughout a regulation, often separated by dozens or even hundreds of pages. As a result, we found people were trying to understand regulations by using paper editions, several different online tools to piece together the relevant information, or even paid subscription services that still don’t make things easy, and can be expensive.

Understanding these challenges and the importance of having regulations that are accessible by consumers and industry are what led us to create the eRegulations tool and we are pleased that so many of you that work with our regulations have found it useful. In fact, since launching this tool, approximately 40 to 50 thousand users visit the eRegulations website each month. With these new additions, we anticipate even more use in the future.

From what you have told us, the eRegulations tool is not only easy to use and navigate, but it also saves hours and hours of lengthy research.

One eRegulations user said:

I love eRegulations; it's a great implementation of modern technology to make a cumbersome task easier and more intuitive. I particularly like the comments being in line and expandable within the text of the regulations. I also love how easy it is to use on a tablet. I take my iPad to meetings with me and can pull up regulations faster than paper copies.”

We are always looking for ways to improve and expand upon this tool and encourage you to continue to suggest ideas that will make it even more useful in the future. That’s why we have been developing this tool as an open source project, meaning anyone interested can view our code and make suggestions. It is also available for any other agencies, developers, or groups to use and adapt to their needs.

We appreciate all of the feedback that we have received from users and we continue to work to make this tool functional for your immediate needs.

Please continue to email your questions, comments or suggestions to us at CFPB_eRegs_Team@consumerfinance.gov.

Please note, eRegulations is not an official legal edition of the Code of Federal Regulations or the Federal Register. We have made every effort to ensure the material presented in this tool is accurate, but if you are relying on it for legal research you should consult the official editions of those sources to confirm your findings.
