Are the rules different for accounts at a savings association than they are for accounts at a bank?

Accounts at a savings association (sometimes called a thrift or a savings and loan) are generally governed by the same rules as accounts at a bank. Deposits held at savings associations are insured by the FDIC. To look up your account’s FDIC protection, visit the Electronic Deposit Insurance Estimator or call the FDIC Call Center at (877) 275-3342 (877-ASK-FDIC). For the hearing impaired, call (800) 877-8339.
