People harmed by the RushCard outages in October 2015 may be eligible to receive compensation
Today, people who weren’t able to access the money on their RushCards in October 2015, but no longer have an active RushCard account, will have redress checks mailed to them. And earlier this month, people who were unable to access the money on their RushCards in October 2015, and still have an active RushCard, received a credit to their account. Harmed RushCard users do not have to make a claim in order to receive payment.
Why are RushCard users receiving money?
In February 2017, we ordered RushCard operators Mastercard and UniRush to pay an estimated $10 million in compensation to people who were unable to access money in their accounts in October 2015. Preventable service disruptions left RushCard users unable to take out cash, access their paychecks or other direct deposit funds, access other funds they had attempted to load, make purchases, or get accurate balance information.
How do I know if I’m eligible for compensation?
You are eligible for compensation if you experienced certain issues with your RushCard in October 2015. The settlement requires UniRush to contact harmed card users who are eligible for compensation.
How will payments be made to me?
If you are eligible for compensation, and no longer have an active RushCard, you will receive a check in the mail.
If you have an active RushCard and are eligible for compensation, you should have received a credit to your RushCard on March 6 or 7, 2018. Check your transaction history for a credit from “RushCard Consent Order Restitution” to make sure the funds were credited.
If you do not have an active RushCard and are eligible for compensation, a letter will be mailed to you today (March 13, 2018) that will include a check. The check will be mailed to your last known address in UniRush’s records. If your check is returned, UniRush must make reasonable efforts to identify your current address and resend it to you. If you receive a check from UniRush, you must deposit or cash your check before Aug. 10, 2018.
