CFPB v. Hoffman Law Group f/k/a Residential Litigation Group

On May 28, 2015, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and the State of Florida were granted a final judgment against the Hoffman Law Group (HLG) and corporate affiliates accused of using deceptive marketing practices and scamming distressed homeowners into paying illegal advance fees.

The Court entered judgments of $11,730,579.00 against the individual defendants and the corporate defendants (jointly and severally), the figure represents the total amount consumers paid the defendants for mortgage assistance relief products or services since April 1, 2012. Of the total redress ordered ($11,730,579.00), the Bureau collected $655,736.98, which will be distributed as redress. Additionally, $11,074,842.00 was allocated from the Civil Penalty Fund to cover the remaining victim harm outlined in the order.

Victim compensation

The CFPB contracted with RUST Consulting to administer victim payments. This matter is now closed.
