CFPB v. Western Benefits Group, LLC

The CFPB found that Western Benefits Group violated the Telemarketing Sales Rule (TSR) and the Consumer Financial Protection Act of 2010 (CFPA).

The consent order executed on May 20, 2024, (i) requires Western Benefits Group to permanently cease all operations, (ii) voids agreements with consumers relating to student-loan debt-relief, and (iii) prohibits assessing and collecting any fees from consumers under these agreements. The CFPB order also required Western Benefits Group to pay a civil money penalty of $400,000.
