Acima Holdings, LLC; Acima Digital, LLC; and Aaron Allred

On July 26, 2024, the Bureau filed a lawsuit against Acima Holdings, LLC and Acima Digital, LLC (collectively, “Acima”), and Acima’s founder and former CEO, Aaron Allred (“Allred”). Acima offers consumers nationwide a means to lease-to-own consumer goods at the point of purchase online and in stores. In the Bureau’s first amended complaint, filed on September 27, 2024, the Bureau alleged that Acima’s leases were credit, and that Acima and Allred violated the Consumer Financial Protection Act of 2010 (CFPA), that Allred substantially assisted Acima’s alleged violations of the CFPA, that Acima violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and its implementing Regulation V, that Acima violated the Truth in Lending Act and its implementing Regulation Z, and that Acima violated the Electronic Fund Transfer Act and its implementing Regulation E. The Bureau also alleged in the alternative that, if Acima did not extend credit to consumers, Acima and Allred violated the CFPA and FCRA.

On March 6, 2025, the Bureau filed a notice voluntarily dismissing the action with prejudice against all defendants, which the court docketed on March 7, 2025.
