CFPB and FTC Take Actions Against TransUnion for Illegal Rental Background Check and Credit Reporting Practices

On November 3, 2025, pursuant to the Bureau’s authority under 12 U.S.C. § 5563(b)(3) and Paragraph 133 of the order, the Bureau terminated the order and waived any alleged non-compliance therewith. TransUnion has fulfilled its obligations under the order, including paying a civil money penalty of $5 million to the Bureau as required by Section IX of the order, making redress payments required by Section VIII of the order, and taking steps to implement injunctive relief required by the “Conduct Provisions” of the order to prevent future violations.
