Mortgage data (HMDA)

HMDA data is the most comprehensive source of publicly available information on the U.S. mortgage market. Learn more about mortgage activity from these data or download the data for your own analysis.

About HMDA

The Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) requires many financial institutions to collect, report, and publicly disclose information about mortgage loans. The data help show whether lenders are serving the housing needs of their communities, provide public officials with information to help make policy decisions, and shed light on lending patterns that could be discriminatory. The publicly available data are modified to protect applicants’ and borrowers’ privacy.

HMDA was originally enacted by Congress in 1975 and is implemented by Regulation C.
