Also they can not enroll for the TrustedID protection being provided courtesy of Equifax.\nDETAILS : Today ( XX/XX/XXXX ) the local paper reported that Equifax had been Hacked onXX/XX/XXXX\nEquifax has provided a website and XXXX number for consumers to verify if they have been affected by the Hack.\nWhen you go to https : //www.equifaxsecurity2017.com/, you are instructed to first select the button \" Potential Impact ''. That takes you to a page the asks you to enter your last name and part of your SSN.\n-- I entered my last name and the site put a green check mark next to the field to acknowledge the data had been entered.\n-- I entered the last 6 digits of my SSN and received another green check mark.\n-- I pressed the \" Continue '' button, and nothing happened. After trying this several times, I checked with a tech ( personal friend ) who used a web developer 's tool to determine what was happening in the background.\nThe site wo n't work if you are using some tracking blockers ... And it has not been coded to allow tracking blocking. -- - a VERY odd concept for a company that is responsible for safeguarding your personal information ( and which has failed to do that anyway ) I called the XXXX number, received the standard \" ... your call is very important to us, please hold for the next available customer service representative ... ''. After 15 minutes of dead silence, the line disconnected.\nI called the number a second time, received same standard recorded greeting. After 15 minutes of music on hold, the line disconnected.\nI called the number a third time, same greeting, etc ... After about 7 minutes of music, someone answered the call. I explained that the website was not working, and that I wanted to verify if I was impacted. He spoke very broken English and did not understand what I was saying. Then he said he would let someone know and they might want to call be back in about 3 business days.\nWe kept getting stuck on the discussion about the broken website, even though I started saying maybe it was just me ... and could he help me with checking if I was impacted by the Hack.\nThis conversation never went smoothly because his English was not good enough for him to fully understand what I was saying or to expand on what he meant. I asked for a supervisor and he hung up on me.\nI have tried every Equifax site I can find for customer contact info so I can send an email to let them know there is a problem with the Hack site, but any time you select 'contact us ', the site fails to link. I have tried all of the Equifax phone numbers I can find listed, but everything either goes to music or disconnects immediately.\nI suspected you could get help if you log in to the Equifax member site, but you have to buy a product to get access to that.\nI called the number that actives a 90 day fraud alert. It is automated and successfully allowed me to set it up. Equifax would still not recognize me as a customer ( fraud alert is free ), and redirected me to their product page so I could select my product ( buy something ).\nI called the number that enables a credit freeze, but did not enter some information to see if it would transfer me to a person. It did transfer me to customer service, then disconnected. Tried that twice. The third time I input all the information needed and paid the {$5.00} change, but Equifax STILL would not recognize me as a customer and again sent me back to their product sales page.\nYou have to buy an ongoing credit monitoring package in order to be able to log into the Equifax site to get customer service help.\nBOTTOM LINE : If you use tracking blocker security on your browser, Equifax is not coded to work for you. The issue arises because Equifax redirects to some XXXX owned and monitored sites ( completely out of Equifax control ), and those sites want to track everything you do. XXXX has been reported to even track your physical location.\nAny business redirecting to another business 's site, has to code to allow their ( Equifax 's ) data to display on the screen. The second business ( XXXX ) will withhold the response since you are blocking their tracking.\nApparently, the use of XXXX sub-routines is considered a shortcut for web developers, and is a common practice. Coding to allow their users to block XXXX tracking, and still be able to use the developer 's site, is also apparently a common situation for web developers.\nAlthough ... I have a serious concern with Equifax redirecting other sites, which it does not directly secure, in their processes ... and especially after 143 million people have been put at risk.\nCan you contact Equifax and let them know there is an issue with their site? I do n't run into this problem with other sites that redirect in the background to various XXXX functions.","date_sent_to_company":"2017-09-08T17:03:11.000Z","issue":"Problem with fraud alerts or security freezes","sub_product":"Credit reporting","zip_code":"44224","tags":null,"has_narrative":true,"complaint_id":"2660979","timely":"Yes","company_response":"Closed with explanation","submitted_via":"Web","company":"EQUIFAX, INC.","date_received":"2017-09-08T15:59:22.000Z","state":"OH","company_public_response":null,"sub_issue":null},"highlight":{"complaint_what_happened":["I have tried every Equifax site I can find for customer contact info so I can send an email to let them know there is a problem with the Hack site, but any time you select 'contact us ', the site fails to link. I was sent a new card but apparently my husbands card from breached account and since I managed the budget didnt realize he still had old card. When my daughter and I traveled for several weeks he had to use a card and although he was supposed to use our other bank card he had misplaced it and had to use our First Citizens. Ultimately the end result was due to him having possession of a card that was transferred to a new account due to someone getting into and logging in our banking portal. \nI called daily begged for escalations and nothing so after Missing mortgage payments, housing costs and any extra money for essential necessities over the holiday weekend I called back again starting that Tuesday when reopened, and no updates no temporary credits given and I continued to call daily and told I would be contacted. That Thursday I was told my claim was denied because there were similar charges on my account and I would get a letter. Immediately I asked the agent to review account and quite literally she had just not included/ missed charges as it all fell in same time period. If they would have called to confirm this like I requested over and over it would not have been missed or been the reason for denial. The agent said she could refile a new claim that reflected these charges and her total resulted in a loss of XXXX. I requested a call from investigating team some kind of a temporary credits given and any updates and got nothing I called daily for weeks upon weeks wrote emails and nothing. No letter of reasons or denials ever came. After some time I finally received another denial stating we had the card used in possession and I was shocked considering this card should have never been linked over as the scammer/theives literally had access to all of the information regarding our account. This was a nightmare, no one would respond or help me do what I needed to do to get this resolved. I continued to reach out but it was highly unproductive. A couple of months later with no results, we received notice that we were also in 2 major health data breaches that included our payment information bank account number and basically our entire lives. The letter indicated the information from these breaches were also consistent with the start of fraudulent activity. I reported this to bank and sent all the requested information and the fraud department. I heard nothing for months wrote another email and then was told by an agent I needed to file a police report before they could move forward and call in when I had the case number. I called and completed this next day and shortly after a super rude and aggressive lady who told me they werent paying it, it was us that had the card and the end. I had just been told they could do nothing until they had this report, I told her but She listened to nothing helped with nothing since you yourself are not able to file your own claims. Its up to the agent to select the proper transactions. I never saw any of these transactions that she selected and upon all of the chaos the account was closed and I no longer had access to be able to go back in through and check to see what total I got on my own. Since the amounts were so different from a to B its quite possible she added things that shouldve been added in there, but how would I know because they never sent anything. They lied over and over and over again continuously put off and surreptitiously denied claims without contacting us to verify and see if we need to re-file. This is not only took money that we needed it put us behind on everything and then quite literally consumed all of my time dealing with waiting on hold multiple case numbers never being called back asking for the supervisor and supervisor advice not being accurate without a doubt the way this was handled was criminal, but not only the people who stole the money but the people who were supposed to protect my money. When I was finally sent a denial letter for the {$21000.00} in XXXX unlike she said it did not list the transactions. I can not verify what they tabulated nor could I see why it was denied. I added Kraken pro to my account on XX/XX/2021 to give me higher funding limits. I also set up a number of security features to ensure that my account could not be easily hacked such as a 2FA, a very strong password and a computer with a dedicated anti-virus software. \nImmediately preceding the incident, I had over {$70000.00} worth of Bitcoin, XXXX, XXXX, Bitcoin Cash, and Ethereum in my Kraken account. \nOn XX/XX/2021, I was locked out of my account. After several days of lock-out, on XX/XX/2021, I was able to access my account and ascertain that my entire portfolio had been converted into Bitcoin and transferred out of Kraken. Between the time of the withdrawals and the time I regained access to my account, Kraken did not notify me of any activity on the account. Prior to this theft, for every trade or withdrawal made, I received an email, but on XX/XX/XXXXor anytime thereafter, I did not receive any emails confirming a withdrawal. \nWhen I notified Kraken that all my funds had been withdrawn by an unauthorized user, Kraken informed that I had been phished and offered the following explanation : 1 ) According to Kraken, I had clicked on a malicious link that appeared as if it were Krakens platform, but was in fact an impostor exchange. ( My response : I am very careful of this and always double check my information ) 2 ) According to Kraken, I clicked on an email that redirected me to a malicious website that was designed to appear like Krakens exchange platform and that someone was able to get into my third party authenticator. ( My response : I never click on any email links or open emails from unknows addresses, instead I go to the company website directly if I know I have an account with the sender and enter through the secured site ) In addition, Kraken informed me that the e-mails were sent to me confirming the trades and cash out, however I never received those emails. I checked my email settings and they were not tampered with or changed in any way. I asked Kraken to resend me the confirmation emails of withdrawal and they never did.\n\nTo the best of my knowledge I was not phished, and I do not know how Kraken determined that I had been phished.\n\nI am very well versed in different phishing schemes due to my employment as I have worked hundreds of cases involving fraud and phishing. I was never solicited to \" go to a Kraken Crypto Exchange site, nor did I go to any site that was not Kraken. I also checked my email settings as stated above, and there were no traces of suspicious activity such as hiding, deleting, or removing information/emails. \nMy third-party authenticator was on my phone, not my computer. I never conducted any trades from my phone, and I use a dedicated computer for investing in cryptocurrencies. \nOn XX/XX/2021, I filed a complaint with IC3.gov. Those credentials were then used to access your account. The attacker then added and confirmed a new withdrawal address and removed funds. Given that the withdrawal address was confirmed through your e-mail, it is highly likely that you either entered your e-mail credentials into a phishing site or that you have malware on your computer. \n\nUnfortunately, given that your credentials and e-mail account were used for the withdrawals, we are not in a position to reimburse you for any funds lost. XXXX audits Company branches on a schedule that is variable depending on the size of the branch, length of \ntime a branch has been open, current tenure of the Branch Manager, previous branch audit score and current and historical branch profitability. \nXXXX reports directly to the Accounting and Administrative Management of the Company. The Company believes that an independent review \nand audit of its branches that is not tied to the sales function of the Company is imperative in order to assure the information obtained is \nimpartial. \n\nTHIS IS FROM PAGE 9 AS WELL CALLED MONITORING AND ENFORCEMENT OF CONTRACTS\n\nThe Companys Management Information Services personnel maintain a number of reports to monitor compliance by customers with their \nobligations under Contracts and direct loans made by the Company. These reports may be accessed on a real-time basis throughout the \nCompany by management personnel, including Branch Managers and staff, at computer terminals located in the main office and each branch \noffice. These reports include delinquency aging reports, customer promises reports, vehicle information reports, purchase reports, dealer \nanalysis reports, static pool reports, and repossession reports. \nA delinquency report is an aging report that provides basic information regarding each account and indicates accounts that are past due. The \nreport includes information such as the account number, address of the customer, home and work phone numbers of the customer, original term \nof the Contract, number of remaining payments, outstanding balance, due dates, date of last payment, number of days past due, scheduled \npayment amount, amount of last payment, total past due, and special payment arrangements or agreements. \nAny account that is less than 120 days old is included on the delinquency report on the first day that the Contract is contractually past due. \nOnce an account becomes 30 days past due, repossession proceedings are implemented unless the customer provides the Company with an \nacceptable explanation for the delinquency and displays a willingness and the ability to make the payment, and commits to a plan to return the \naccount to current status. When an account is 60 days past due, the Company ceases recognition of income on the Contract and repossession \nproceedings are initiated. At 120 days delinquent, if the vehicle has not yet been repossessed, the account is written off. Once a vehicle has \nbeen repossessed, the related loan balance no longer appears on the delinquency report. Instead, the vehicle appears on the Companys \nrepossession report and is sold, either at auction or to an automobile dealer. \n\nWhen an account becomes delinquent, the Company immediately contacts the customer to determine the reason for the delinquency and to \ndetermine if appropriate arrangements for payment can be made. If payment arrangements acceptable to the Company can be made, the \ninformation is entered in its database and is used to generate a Promises Report, which is utilized by the Companys collection staff for \naccount follow up. \n\nThe Company prepares a repossession report that provides information regarding repossessed vehicles and aids the Company in disposing of \nrepossessed vehicles. In addition to information regarding the customer, this report provides information regarding the date of repossession, \ndate the vehicle was sold, number of days it was held in inventory prior to sale, year, make and model of the vehicle, mileage, payoff amount \non the Contract, XXXX book value, XXXX XXXX value, suggested sale price, location of the vehicle, original dealer and condition of the \nvehicle, as well as notes other information that may be helpful to the Company. \nThe Company also prepares a dealer analysis report that provides information regarding each dealer from which it purchases Contracts. This \nreport allows the Company to analyze the volume of business done with each dealer and the terms on which it has purchased Contracts from \nsuch dealer. \n\nThe Companys policy is to aggressively pursue legal remedies to collect deficiencies from customers. Oral requests for payment are made \nbeginning when an account becomes 11 days delinquent. When an account becomes 30 days delinquent and the customer has not made \npayment arrangements acceptable to the Company or has failed to respond to the requests for payment, a repossession request form is prepared \nby the responsible branch office employee for approval by the Branch Manager for the vicinity in which the borrower lives. Once the \nrepossession request has been approved, first by the Branch Manager and second by the applicable District \n \n\n\nTHIS STATES HOW ANYONE IN THE COMPANY CAN ACCESS ALL INFORMATION ALTER INFORMATION BASICALLY DO WHATEVER THEY WANT, NOT PRIVACY \n\nComputerized Information System \nThe Company utilizes integrated computer systems developed by XXXX to assist in responding to customer inquiries and to monitor the \nperformance of its Contract and direct loan portfolio and the performance of individual customers under Contracts. Auction proceeds from the sale \nof repossessed vehicles and other recoveries are usually not sufficient to cover the outstanding balance of the Contract, and the resulting \ndeficiency is charged off. In addition, there is, on average, approximately a 30-day lapse between the time we repossess a vehicle and the time \nit is sold by a dealer or at auction.
