I placed these with each bureau over the phone. I did not have online access with them. On XX/XX/XXXX, I received an email from XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX was trying to open a XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX I called XXXX XXXX XXXX and they said they could do nothing since the account was not opened. I called TransUnion and they said that the credit freeze had been lifted. I asked them how, since I have a PIN and it was sent USPS to me & I havent told it to anyone. They said it was removed using my online TransUnion account. I told the agent that I didnt have an online account, and what good was a PIN if it can be so easily bypassed. The exchange was extremely unsatisfactory, but the agent did re-institute the credit freeze. On XX/XX/XXXX I decided to create online access with the 3 bureaus to prevent hackers from bypassing the freezes through online access. When I got to TransUnion, I was easily able to create online access, which was surprising. I thought that online access had already been created by the hacker. Today I went online to check the freezes and the XXXX and XXXX freezes were still in effect. However, I was not able to get into my TransUnion account. The next XXXX hours were spent on 3 different phone calls with XXXX call center agents. The upshot : my information was in 3 different profiles. The 1st : a free account created by the hacker on XX/XX/XXXX had the username of XXXX. The 2nd : a paid account created on XX/XX/XXXX by me had the username of XXXX The XXXX : a free account accidentally created by me with the username of XXXX The XXXX agent was the one who told me that I had XXXX accounts. She was able to delete the XXXX free ones before we were cut off. On the XXXX call, the first agent told me that there were XXXX different login pages, depending on whether the consumer has a paid or free account. Later in that call, supervisor XXXX deleted the account created by me on XX/XX/XXXX so that I could start over. With him on the line, I recreated the paid TransUnion account. Once it was created, I asked him how I could check on the freeze from this account. He said that I could not, that I could only check on the freeze from a free account. I asked him if someone created a free account, could they take off the freeze, and he said, Yes maam. After we hung up, I created a free account with TransUnion so that the hacker could not create one and hijack my account. My complaint : TransUnion is negligent in their security practices because a free account can be used to bypass a credit freeze without the PIN even if the user has a paid account or has placed the credit freeze over the phone, and that the company is deceptive and negligent in that there are 2 different login pages, depending on if the consumer has a paid or free account. TransUnion is also deceptive in their website, which tricks people into creating a paid account. Since that time, Experian has been sending me unwanted marketing communications and offers unrelated to implementing the credit freeze. \n\nFor example, on XX/XX/XXXX, Experian sent me an email entitled \" Instantly increase your FICO Score ( yep, you read that right! ). '' This is clearly an ad for Experian 's Boost product offering. However, Experian maintains that I can not opt-out of this communication because it is \" related to my account ''. The footer of the email reads \" This email was sent because it contains important information about your account.... you will continue to receive email notifications regarding your account. '' Again, on XX/XX/XXXX, Experian sent me an email directing me to \" See your latest Experian credit report, FICO Score and other updates '' ( I have to assume, at an additional cost ). Similarly to the XX/XX/XXXX ad, the footer of the email reads : \" Why am I receiving this email? This is not a marketing email - you're receiving this message to notify you of a recent change to your account.... You can update some alerts and communications preferences any time on your Experian CreditWorks Basic profile, but you'll continue to receive notifications like this one on the status of your account. '' Contrary to the representations within the email footer, the purpose of the email is clearly to entice me to purchase another product from Experian. The email is unrelated to my credit freeze and addresses no change affecting my credit freeze. \n\nConsumers should be able to implement a credit freeze without receiving daily emails from Experian advertising other Experian products. There appears to be no way of stopping these emails, other than to delete my Experian account. After spending a day on the phone with them, all I could learn was that someone had obtained my social security number and was able to open an account with them and un-freeze my credit. Experian did this without the security PIN and without attempting to verify the identity of the fraudster, who went on to apply for numerous credit cards in my name. Talking to Experian was fruitless. They do not consider any fraud information on your account as fraud, instead transfer you to \" membership '' who can do nothing about fraud. It took hours to clear off the invalid credit information and delete numerous added addresses and phone numbers. I do not have confidence that I have fully corrected the record. \nThe fraudsters have figured out that the Experian report does not show all the phone numbers on the account. The fraudsters had added at least 5. I had to submit a report THREE times to Experian because each time they would remove bad phone numbers, new bad numbers would show up in their limited field-view. I also believe that the fraudsters added 5 phone numbers because the FTC identitytheft.gov website allows a victim to only report 4 bad numbers, thus leaving 1 fraud number as valid. I thought it was the law that once my credit was frozen it was permanent until I un-froze it. Though I have asked Experian to explain how that could have been done without my security PIN, they have been unable to provide an explanation. I was not surprised by the fact that a fraudster was unable to get my ssn, because it has been widely reported that that information is readily available. Despite all of this, Experian saw fit to ignore their security process and obvious signs of fraud and allow someone to take over my credit. I asked what credit reporting agency they used, and they told me Equifax. \nSo I went home to look up the PIN I was sent when I created the freeze on the Equifax account and tried to lift the freeze. Their website indicates that one has to make a myEquifax account to lift and place security freezes. Their privacy disclosure stated that there was a phone number I could call if I didn't want to create a myEquifax account. I tried calling that number, but it did not have any options about lifting/placing security freezes. So I decided that I had to create the myEquifax account to temporarily lift the freeze so I could open my bank account. \nI made the account and logged in, but the website told me that I could not log in and to call customer service at XXXX. I called and was able to have the freeze lifted so that I could open my bank account. When I asked about the website, he told me that it was down and to try again in 24 hours. \nI called again on Sunday, XXXX XXXX, 1926 hours later, and I still experienced issues with not being able to access my account. The representative assured me that it would work in \" one hour 's time. '' I waited 90 minutes and tried again to access my account on myEquifax.com. It still did not work. I called customer service again and asked them to look into the problem as I wanted to know the status of the security freeze ( whether it had been reinstated after the temporary lifting ) and see for myself that it was done. The first agent I spoke with on Sunday expressed amazement that anyone had told me it would take only 24 hours or 1 hour to fix the issue. He transferred me to his supervisor, who then transferred me to \" myEquifax technical support '' for more help with the issue. \nI was told by the myEquifax technical support person that the website had been down for days, that they were \" adding features to the website, '' and that the website was down while they were \" updating the website. '' I asked why they didn't do upgrades on a non-live website so that they didn't mess up access for people, and she couldn't explain. She told me to write a letter and send it to the credit dispute department ( even though this has nothing to do with a dispute about anything on my credit report ). \nI called again on Monday, XX/XX/XXXX, after I decided that I didn't want Equifax to have access to my email address as well as wanting to recuse myself from the terms of their privacy policy, specifically the term that allows them to place robocalls to me. I talked to a succession of representatives who were unhelpful, telling me that they had no access to delete my information or telling me that I should just \" call back in 48 hours '' or \" call back in 7-10 days '' to see if the issue was resolved. Finally, I got to talk to a manager who seemed to be competent. He changed the email associated with my account to a fake email ( something that I would not be able to receive ). I got a notice of the email change to my email account. I told him that that was not acceptable as Equifax would then send information to the fake email address and I would be bound to the terms of that email without knowing about it ( as I could not access it ). I told him that he needed to delete the entire account to ensure that I would not be bound by terms and conditions that I had no way of receiving. He said that he could not do that and hung up on me (! ). \nI called back and again talked to a succession of customer service representatives, the last of which told me that I no longer had a myEquifax account associated with my name. I spent an hour trying to do the conversions, and despite familiarity with these processes, I could not do so. I've done file conversions for years. I had cropped the files, etc. But you can not reduce file size in either as they are vector files. But then I only tried three different conversion programs. They should accept the images in any format that a camera or smartphone takes them without requiring people to jump through hoops.\n\nI began the process again and this time it accepted my answers.\n\nChecking my report, it was spread apart on about 20 different pages, and they were summary. Again, this was made as difficult as possible. I did find an extra street address which didn't even exist and requested that it be deleted. I could not find the one place to download my credit report. Also, one account was missing. \n\nI successfully filed a dispute to delete the erroneous address. I saw options for credit alerts, fraud alerts and freezes plus other services and could not determine which I needed. I went through all the menus and could not decide. \n\nI then spent two hours trying to reach someone calling six phone numbers a total of eleven times., The numbers on their website would not allow me to reach anyone. I went through multiple levels of menus providing all sorts of information on each only to be given binary choices of yes or no to turn on one feature or another. Attempts to break through by pressing zero or saying agent did not work. The one number to get me through is not listed on their website, but a consumer agency. \n\nOnce I dialed this number I did reach someone who was able to answer my questions. \n\nExperian has purposely made it impossible to reach them. I'm certain they can prevent credit freezes and have more records to sell and reduce their liability for errors by saying they were never told by the consumer.
