Instead, they falsely claimed in a previous CFPB response that documentation had been sent to me, when in fact, I have received nothing. \n\nUnder the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act ( FDCPA ), 15 U.S.C. 1692g ( b ), once a consumer disputes a debt, the debt collector must cease collection efforts until they provide proper validation of the debt. Furthermore, failure to properly respond to a lawful dispute and continued collection activities, including reporting to credit bureaus without validation, is a violation of federal law.\n\nAdditionally, the Texas Finance Code 392 requires a debt collector to validate debts and maintain compliance with consumer protections in this state.
