Apply to serve on the taskforce

Any interested person may apply for membership on the taskforce.

Please complete and submit the application packet by 5:00pm Eastern on Friday, October 25, 2019 per the instructions below.

Selection criteria

Here’s what we are looking for:

  • Expertise in consumer protection and consumer financial products or services.
  • Significant experience researching and analyzing consumer financial markets, laws, and regulations.
  • Past record of senior public or academic service.
  • Recognition for professional achievements and objectivity in economics, econometrics, or law.

Members of the taskforce shall serve for one year and will operate under the guidance of the CFPB.  Compensation may be available as well as support for travel costs. Conditions apply. Support staff will be available to taskforce members.

Application instructions

A complete application packet must include:

  1. Cover Letter explaining your interest and qualifications
  2. A résumé or curriculum vitae for the applicant

A letter of recommendation is not necessary. This packet must be submitted via email to by 5:00pm Eastern on Friday, October 25, 2019. 

To evaluate potential sources of conflicts of interest, we will ask interested applicants to provide information related to financial holdings and/or professional affiliations, and to allow the CFPB to perform a background check. The CFPB will use the information you provide only for these purposes or other purposes authorized by law, or as outlined under the attached Privacy Act Statement.

The information you provide to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (“Bureau”) will assist the Bureau in selecting members to serve on the Taskforce on Federal Consumer Financial Law.

The Bureau will have access to personally identifiable information (PII) such as your name, email address, number, and mailing address.

Information collected will be treated in accordance with the System of Records Notice (“SORN”), External Contact Database CFPB.013 , 83 FR 23435. Although the Bureau does not anticipate further disclosing the information provided, it may be disclosed as indicated in the Routine Uses described in the SORN.

This collection of information is authorized by Pub. L. No. 111-203 and codified at 12 U.S.C. § 5512. 

Participation in this taskforce is voluntary.
