THIS IS A VOLUNTARY REASSIGNMENT OPPORTUNITY FOR CURRENT BUREAU OF CONSUMER FINANCIAL PROTECTION EMPLOYEES AT THE CN-71; OR, HIGHER PAY BAND WHO ARE WILLING TO TAKE A VOLUNTARY CHANGE TO LOWER PAY BAND.

This position is located in the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection, Legal Division, Law and Policy.  As a senior attorney in the Legal Division, the incumbent provides expert legal interpretations on extremely complex issues and the most difficult legal matters.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Counsel, you will:

  • Advise the Director and Bureau components on the Bureau’s authorities and jurisdiction, the interpretation of Federal consumer financial statutes and regulations, and matters of administrative law. Work in this area ensures that the Bureau takes consistent and well supported legal positions across the range of agency functions, including rulemaking, supervision, enforcement, and consumer education.
  • In the most complex matters under the guidance of management, researches and provides written and/or oral analyses to answer legal questions and address issues relating to constitutional and administrative law, consumer finance law, the Dodd-Frank Act, and other laws and regulations arising out of the CFPB’s exercise of its rulemaking, supervisory, enforcement, and other authorities.
