How Tech Sprints Work

Our tech sprints can take on various forms including traditional “hackathon” style events, competitions, and month-long engagements. Sprints can be virtual, in-person, or a combination of both. We provide the problem statement, collaboration platforms, and subject matter experts for consultation across the week. Participants provide their own technology, suitable to their chosen project, data and processing needs; most valuably, they provide their time and expertise.

We work collaboratively to develop the problem statements for each sprint. Topics and problem statements have been inspired by multiple sources including public comments, discussions with external stakeholders, and feedback from CFPB advisory board members.

During each tech sprint week, teams interact with CFPB staff, fellow tech sprint participants, and subject matter experts as they “hack” on their determined solution. The tech sprint week culminates in a Demonstration Day where each sprint team shares their innovation with a panel of evaluating experts.
